4 Star Review Good purchase

vtmchris - (March 28, 2005) Research: I've been looking for two years for a gps device for my car. An upcoming move to a new area added new focus to the search. I started looking at the Magellan Roadmate 700 because of the complete US mapping (I like the idea of just getting in the car and taking off without having to download maps). Magellan's reviews on PiceGrabber were positive but no one offered comparisons to other gps devices. The reviews for Garmin, however, were much stronger. Some people specifically compared the StreetPilot 2620 to Magellan noting the business directory and other features that Garmin offers that Magellan had not yet addressed. While considering Garmin StreetPilot 2620 I noticed the many

writeareview - (July 30, 2004) I've read over a hundred reviews prior to purchasing this unit. The two units that I did close comparison with was the Magellan Roadmate 700 and this unit. Now that I've own the unit for about two weeks, I'm extremely glad that I chose this unit. I know that buying a gps can be confusing, that is why I'm taking the time to help some of you out there who may be caught in the same situation as I had. Garmin 2620 by far wins over the Magellan Roadmate 700. That is the bottom line! I had a chance to try both of them. Overall, the 2620 is much more comprehensive and reliable. You may see some of the reviews out there saying that the 2620 unit doesn't tell you to turn "left" or "right" rather i

rexrzer2005 - (May 07, 2007) And here we have the champ, the benchmark in personal GPS devices, the Nuvi 660. It's got everything you need, and then some in a GPS: it's intuitive to use (I never even opened the manual for the 1st week), the screen is bright and clear even in bright sunlight, it comes with *everything* in the box unless you need the dash mount for your car (in California it's illegal to have windshield mounted devices in your car), the Traffic Monitor actually works, BlueTooth works with practically any BT phone, not just the ones on Garmin's compatibility list, and most important, this GPS is both PC and Mac user-updatable/upgradable as of March 2007! That's a lot of pluses, and there's literally nothin

1 Star Review Not a good device

dmmmd - (12/23/2011) Easy to use. Unfortunately, not accurate. Gets lost, tells me to make a U-turn even though I am going in the right direction. Database of locations is missing an established neighborhood restaurant that was in the database of my 4 year old Garmin. Alarm clock goes off on random mornings even though it is not set to go off. "Free" traffic info actually comes at the expense of having the unit display annoying pop-up ads that can't be turned off. My 2455LMT came with already out-of-date maps that had to be upgraded. The upgrade process was not easy. First attempt failed. Second attempt worked but took 6 hours over a reasonably fast cable internet connection. After using the unit every day for 3 weeks, one morning it simply would not turn on. Not when connected to the supplied power cord, nor when connected to a computer via USB cable. I have returned it for a refund. Look at other websites with user reviews; my experience with the 2455LMT is not unique.

1 Star Review Cheated by Teletype

nigels1 - (10/19/2011) Buyer Beware TeleType WorldNav GPSI bought this TeleType WorldNav GPS in April 2011 to use when towing my RV and, as instructed, registered the product on line. It did not work correctly from day one, several major problems with data, conflict between verbal and visual instructions and it kept freezing. I complained. They sent me a patch on a micro chip, it resolved only one of the problems. After a few weeks it froze and this time would not reset. I complained again and they promised, in writing, to refund me, they sent me a return authorisation code, return form and details where to post the product to receive the refund. Because of their promise to refund me I bought a new Rand McNally RVND 5510. I also informed them that I would do this and returned the unit to them. After two weeks I asked why I had not received my refund, first they lied and said that they could not find my email address, (they have had 11 emails from me!), now they say I can't have a refund because I bought it from one of their retailers and not from them direct! There is nothing on their website or sales literature or in my initial email enquiries to them, to say that I would be prejudiced if I bought from one of their retailers. They say it is now repaired, (oh yes!), and wanted to return it to me. I reminded them that because they had promised me a refund I had now bought another GPS. They then suggested that I try and sell it on Ebay! Can you believe that! (Frankly I could not give it away knowing that it is so awfull). They also said if I did not agree that after 90 days they would destroy it!I have made a formal complaint to BBB, Better Business Bureau, I will update this post with progress regularly.PS. Since using the Rand McNally I now realise how useless (when it was working) the TeleType WorldNav GPS was. It is not an RV GPS at all but a Truck GPS with outdated and flawed software with a few, mostly irrelevant, RV features added to the software. Is this a Rant, maybe, just don't get caught like I did.

3 Star Review New To Garmin

fusion888 - (10/14/2011) I have had 2 TomToms which have very faulty maps, but great user interface. Of the major manufacturers, Garmin is the only on using Navteq maps (which are supposed to be better in the USA. the user interface is made easier with the voice commands which seems to be decent. The blue tooth is useless if you cannot hear the party you are calling. If the maps are indeed better than TomToms TeleAtlas maps, I will be very happy. By the way, Magellan is switching all their units and all updates to TeleAtlas (according to Magellan customer service.
