16:9 - 2 Megapixel Image - 1.1 Megapixel Video - 10x Optical Zoom - 80x Digital Zoom - Electronic IS - 40 GB Hard Drive - MPN: DCRSR200
Strengths: Audio and Video Quality. Sound performance. Lightweight and simple operation.Easy to use.
Weakness: Battery size.Video Editor Software.
Bought this camcorder last month after debating this and the competing Panasonic model (SDR series). I should say that the overall image and movie quality out of this camcorder is rich and vivid. The controls are easy and self-intuitive, placed right where you'd expect it to be, and the on-screen controls I thought are pretty neat considering I have mid-sized fingers. Like several other reviews mention, the battery does tend to protrude out a little but I dont mind it given the overall performance of the camcorder. Transferring and burning is straightforward although I wish that the camcorder software had more in depth editing/effect making capabilities. The charging base will need to go everywhere you go (especially on long trips) but I did'nt mind it one bit since it was light and does not add to your luggage at all. Video can be recorded in 3 different and distinct formats, given that this is a CMOS recording, the effect on overall image blending is negligible. The camcorder is light, battery life is just about what is the norm and the storage is way more enough than I'd ever need ( I regularly tend to transfer data out to a DVD/Computer closeby). Happy Moviemaking!!!!

TopStrengths: Built in Media (40GB Hard Drive), Great anti-shake system, fits well in hand, zoom is smooth and can be fast or slow with practice. Built in lens cap
Weakness: Nothing major, Touch screen spot focus is a little hard to use unless on tripod as harder to hold and touch. There are bigger optical zoom cameras but still good.
This is our first hard drive camcorder, we are used to a little thinner camera from other models but it works very well in your hand. Image quality has been outstanding on high or medium quality. Low light gets a little grainy but still good overall. Included movie on how to shoot movies is pretty funny, talks about how to avoid having people get bored watching your home movies. I thought I wanted a larger optical zoom camera but 10x has been good for all the situations I've encountered so far, able to get close up-waist up crops on basketball players on the floor from 20 rows up. Included Editing software is really just for trimming a little off of beginning or end of a scene, reccomend other software, also check software for compatibility with mpeg2, windows movie maker seemed to lower the quality of a finished project compared to adobe premier elements.
Battery life has been great, sony info lithium pretty accurately tells you how many minutes left instead of just a bar. Highly reccommend, not a High Definition camera but does have wide screen option for different look.

TopStrengths: Picture Quality is amazing, no tapes to mess with, cool night vision, and easy touchscreen
Weakness: small lcd screen, bulky battery, awkward positioning of taking still pictures
First of all, I have waited years, literally years, researching and waiting for the best camera to replace my old jvc camcorder. I have read positive reviews about the sony dcr-sr 100 and now the dcr-sr200 came out and was an improvement from that so I just couldn't wait any longer and I purchased it.
I was wanting a hard drive because I have dealt with so many tapes and it has been a pain to transfer them over. Using this camcorder has been so easy to transfer it to a disk. You can either download it to the computer and edit or just simply push a button on the docking station and it burns directly to a dvd. Amazing!!
Picture quality is absolutely awesome, especially compared to my old camcorder. I do find the picture grainy in low light when I am zooming in. I do wish the camcorder displays when I am in the digital zoom and no longer in the opitcal zoom.
The play back is great, very easy to do, and everything seems very simple with the touch screen menu. Not to confusing at all. I basically figured out the camera without having to read the manual. I wish the lcd screen was a little bigger but not that big of a deal.
I have taken some stills with this camera and the position of snapping the photo was a littler cumbersome since the button was at the very top of the camcorder. I had to use two hands to do it, one to hold the camera, and one to push the button. That is definitely one thing they need to change is the position of the button so you can do it with one hand. Also, the battery is little bulky but I think it has great battery life over 100 minutes when charged.
All in all, this camera is great, I am very happy with this purchase. Oh, the night vision is so cool, that was an unexpected bonus. Videoing in complete darkness and able to see things is so awesome.

TopStrengths: Video quality is excellent, accurate colors, able to keep picture steady, excellent sound, software better than expected, still photo quality was very clear even impressive
Weakness: position of start/stop button could be on left side instead of right so that you can use your thumb instead of your other hand, (you can also use the start / stop button on touch screen
I'm glad that I selected this camcorder The extra $150 for the hard drive (HDD) model over the mini DVD model will make up for itself after about 10 hours of recording. You don't even have to buy the media stick because stills can be saved to the HDD.
The software installed to my Vista PC with no problem. I really like the one touch option to burn the DVD. It came out with nice menus and played well on both of my older DVD players. Even my old PC recognized the camcorder as another drive.

TopStrengths: Excellent Video & Audio Quality. Great Still Pictures. Cool Touchscreen LCD. Night shot video is amazing. In Built Flash is very powerful.
Weakness: Battery protruded outside kinda gives a odd look. User Manual supplied is not very informative... u got to explore all the menus urself. u need docking stn to connect to PC.
Hey , no more additional softwares to convert all other video formats, Directly recorded as Mpeg format, connect to PC and rip your DVD.. its that easy.
Picture Motion Browser supplied with Handycam is cool and very handy, you can trim out unwanted portion of your videos.
I have been waiting for this since long. I purchased this just bcos its predecessor SR-100 was a big hit, and this one has all the features of SR-100 and some extra features.

TopStrengths: Picture quality is very good at daytime, user friendly, light weight, large 40GB hard disk
Weakness: poor picture quality at night, ugly looking of battery in the camcorder, no battery charger, buttons on the screen are too small
I have been looking at the prices of camcorders for nearly one month. I campared different brands such as Sony, JVC, Canon and Panasonic, and finally decided to buy Sony SR200 based on an overall consideration. Fortunately, before Christmas PriceGrabber showed that Amazon had a deal of $500 for this camcorder, and I bought it at once. I think this is a very good deal, since until now the lowest price has never reached $500 again.
This is my first hard drive camcorder. The video quality is good and vivid at daytime, and the quality of still pictures is acceptable. It's very light in weight, and very user friendly. The 40GB hard drive is large enough for recording more than 10 hours.
However, there are still some dissatisfying points in this camcorder. The video quality at night are not as good as daytime. The battery is designed to stick out, giving an ugly look. There is no battery charger with this camcorder, and the battery should be charged on the charging base or on camera. And the buttons on the touchscreen are too small and side-located, and are difficult for me as my fingers are not small.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with the purchase, and there will be a lot of funs to make family videos.

TopStrengths: Excellent picture quality, 5.1 ch sound, light weight, smooth zooming, Touch screen menu is very simple, Shoe for attachments.
Weakness: No shoulder strap, Battery looks little off the body
Great camcorder. This is my first HDD camcorder. I owned year old Hi8 camcorder and after getting this I am very happy and excited with the picture and sound of course. As expected picture quality is very good and sharp. For obvious reason night time shots in the room is not sharp as day time. Believe if I use extra light at night time picture will be improved. The Super Nightshot feature is great. I am not much concerned about the still picture as I like to use separate camera for that. Stills are OK. The touch screen menu is very easy to use. So far I did not open the manual.
The camera can be charged directly as well as using the docking station. Docking station is very small and easily fits in the camcorder bag. Initially I thought that the docking station will be kind of bulky. But it is not.
So far I am happy with the camera and recommend other people to go for it. I think the price is not too high compare to the camera. So far I did not make any DVD but pretty sure it would be good.

TopStrengths: Picture quality. easy to use
Weakness: Battery sticks out too much off the back of the camera making it look sort of ugly. Only 10x zoom
I've only had it for a week, but I'm already up to speed on most of the features. Picture quality is very good in good daylight. I had some shots at night in well lit family room, and the video is not as sharp as day time shots, but still very good.

TopStrengths: 60GB means a lot of storage, it will run for long period of time to shoot all your video. Very compact design and of course this is Sony brand so I woyld buy this with blink of an eye.
Weakness: So far none.
Very nice camcorder. I would recommend to everyone who wants something that cost may be a little but dashing product. The best thing about this is very compact and small but amazing picture quality. No need for DVs or DVDs so what else someone could ask for?

TopStrengths: - Quality - Touch Screen LCD - 5.1 surround sound - Still pics of high quality
Weakness: - Battery - Low Optical ZOOM
ok - I literally waited for 6 months following the price of this camcorder before jumping on it. and my wait was rewarding! What a amazing camcorder it is - if only it has higher optical zoom... Very convinient to use and operate. I feel the night light is a extra plus here and works well with the night vision.
haven't had a chance to use the video editing sw.

Amazing Camcorder: Very easy to use.
Strengths: 40 GB HDD-Ample memory. User friendly Menu. Excellent Video Quality. Light Weight. CMOS Technology-No distortion. Dolby Digital Audio. Outstanding Still pics. Good in low light conditions.
Weakness: Bulky battery. Battery Consumption more. Lacks inbuilt USB port in camcorder. Misses a view finder.
What first drew me to the SR200 was the hard drive. The hard drive can hold several hours of video and is very easy to use. 40 GB of internal hard drive space made it really awesome for personal and professional use. Ideally no need of external memory sticks.
The next thing that drew me to the camcorder was its CMOS sensor. CMOS Technology for image stabilisation prevents distortion of image in case of shake. The moving images are also captured perfect. I captured few short videos from moving cars. The recording quality of this camcorder is great even from moving vehicles!
The lens quality on this camcorder is also very good. The video quality is very clear. Even when zoomed the images of objects which are almost 50 feet away are captured clearly. Even in low light conditions the picture quality is good. I tried outside and inside shooting when it was cloudy and I am pretty happy with the video quality. Still pictures are outstanding considering its only a 4.1 megapixel.
Dolby Digital Audio captures the voice ultraclear even from a 10-15 ft distance.
Ease of use is a big part of the equation as well. User friendly menu helps even a novice user to make it. The controls are very easy to use, its very simple to operate. With the included docking station, this camcorder is a snap to use.
Light weight makes it very handy.
Overall I would say it is worth of money you spent to capture your precious moments.
